Join us for a preconference workshop and site visit highlighting services of the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency Border Health Program and Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (ORIA), and San Diego Jewish Family Services (SDJFS).
The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency Border Health Program (SDCBHP) participates in a network that coordinates health and human services to new arrivals people living in the San Diego-Tijuana border region. The network has a long history of working with underserved populations, and it is committed to improving health equity through community engagement, field practice, and innovation.
This workshop and site visit will provide a unique opportunity to learn about the SDCBHP and the San Diego County Rapid Response Network (SDCRRN) and to see firsthand the impact that the program is having on the health of border and migrant populations.
Topics to be covered:
⦁ The history and mission of the SDCBHP, SDRRN, JFS, and ORIAA
⦁ The network’s services and programs
⦁ Then network’s impact on public health outcomes
⦁ Challenges facing border and migrant populations through the lens of network providers
⦁ Potential solutions to improve health equity in border and migrant populations
⦁ Innovation in community/public health nursing practice, education, scholarship, and policy
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Explore the San Diego County Border Health Program and its regional service area in alignment with the conference mission of “Stronger Together: Bridging Academia and Practice.”
2. Critically analyze the San Diego County Border Health Program and associated impacts of community engagement and field practices on public health outcomes in a health equity context.
3. Collaborate to discover potential solutions to improve health equity in border and migrant populations.
4. Highlight new insights supporting innovation in community/public health nursing practice, education, scholarship, and policy to advance health equity.
Target Audience:
This workshop is designed for community/public health nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care professionals who are interested in learning more about the challenges and opportunities facing border and migrant populations.
Conference Cancelation Information:
Cancelations/Changes will be accepted up to May 15 with a $75 administration fee. No cancelations accepted May 15, 2023. Transfer within organization is accepted. Any exceptions will be considered on an individual basis.
